2025 Avantis Community Cup

After a successful launch in 2024, the Avantis Community Cup returned bigger and better for 2025.

This season 7 junior teams enjoyed a round robin played across three Saturday mornings. Each school/team gave the opportunity of competing to their less experienced young curlers which made it a fair competition, and hopefully inspired many of the participants to continue pursuing curling as an activity in future. Played in the true spirit of curling, the games were competitive yet friendly, as evidenced by everyone’s enthusiasm and smiles throughout the event. All teams scored at least 1 win, with the final standings showing that all teams were no more than one win away from the teams above or below them – so it was a very close competition. Indeed the final outcome was not known until the last game had finished. Going into the last round of fixtures, Gogar Park Young Curlers had a bye after completing all their games and were top of the table with 9 points from a possible 12. Craigmount were going into their last game knowing a win would give them 9 points as well but sneak them into 1st place on tiebreakers, while a loss would see them get leapfrogged by their opponents and drop to 3rd overall. In the end Craigmount did enough to secure 1st place, lift the Avantis Community Cup, and become the second team to get their name engraved on the trophy. Pictured below is the winning team.

We would like to thank the organiser, Simon Luxford-Moore (and his helpers), whose endless enthusiasm and organisation made the event a real success. Many thanks are also due to Avantis Education, whose generous sponsorship provided the trophy and covered all the ice costs for the participants.
