Board Statement: Proposed hotel development
There has been an article in the press about the Proposal of Application Notice submitted by Murrayfield 2020 Ltd to redevelop the site of the ice rink, curling rink and surrounding land.
This news article is the first the Edinburgh Curling Club board has heard of Murrayfield 2020.
We were, however, invited to a meeting with a company called Linkage Scotland, who we believe are connected to Murrayfield 2020.
Linkage Scotland Ltd did confirm that they had secured an option over the Kerr family’s controlling shareholding in the Murrayfield Ice Rink Ltd (the skating rink).
For the avoidance of doubt, Edinburgh Curling Club Ltd and Murrayfield Curling Ltd have no agreement in place with either Linkage Scotland or Murrayfield 2020, nor do we believe their plans are deliverable as they do not control significant areas of the land detailed in the Proposal of Application Notice, not least our curling rink and interest in the car park.
We have regular meetings with the SRU and it is clear the SRU’s position aligns with the curlers.
The planning activities of our neighbours at the skating rink are completely unconnected with the focus of the MCL and ECC boards, which are to modernise our existing facility.
In delivering a refurbishment of the curling rink, the key risks in relation to the cooling floor, club rooms and efficiency of the building envelope are solved and curling at Murrayfield can be guaranteed and enjoyed by our members for decades to come.
More information about the modernisation will be circulated to the members very soon.
This infomation was also circulated to our members via email. Click here to view the email.
